Botyiaki Ntembe. An exclusive 2-CD box brings together remastered first and last recordings of the Congolese legend*Wendo Kolosoy*. The story of a natural gift, of an eternal teenager who introduced rumba into Congolese lives and until his death at 83 years old remained an entertainer. The box includes an extensive booklet with exclusive recording, photos, biography, period accounts and more...

His busy life is really epic like the story of Congo, his country. Born in 1925, he begins his career by performing in the streets in 1936, he is fair-weather sailor in the late 30’s, boxer in 1941 and eventually becomes a notorious singer discovered by a greek record producer in 1948. He becomes a real African legend with the hit «Marie-Louise».

Chased by Belgium colonists who mistook him for a kinagist preacher, he was then ex-communicated by the missionaries. Congo’s star Antoine Kolosoy (known as Wendo), the 1960’s events go beyond him. With the independence of the country, other stars emerge on the Congolese scene playing electric guitar as they sing and celebrate the «Independence chacha» of the great Kallé which tolls the bell of «Tango Ya Ba Wendo» (the time of Wendo).

Left behind by his producers (who went back to Europe), Wendo is the victim of the end of the seventy-eight disc era. This pioneer of the rumba goes back to his life as fair-weather sailor on the Zaire river on which he composes and plays songs for the passengers as they arrive in the harbor. Those disembarkations full of joy have contributed to make Wendo a legend.

His compositions have been stolen by his peers who interpreted his songs under their own names. This naïve manager who was often broke, this complex partner who would sell his rights (already five times sold)… this great artist has lived 83 years of a tumultuous life like the river he beloved. Wendo was a joyful lad, high roller, he would gather the crowds, often took part in fights and would hit on all the ladies he met on his way…

As of today, his masterpiece continues to stand as a great part of the Congolese identity.
