EDGES – the band led by guitarist Guillaume Vierset – is back with a second release that shakes up the musical codes. “Morning Mister Protocol” plunges us into a crazy world that drifts between glitter and violence, distilling a rebellious yet casual jazz-rock-punk that breaks a few rules.

On ‘The End of The F****ing World’, their first post-covid album that kicked over the jazz anthill, the guitarist surrounded himself with two international stars (Jim Black on drums, Anders Christensen on bass) with Dorian Dumont (Echt!, APHEXionS) on keyboards.
The group toured in Belgium and elsewhere, offering incredibly tight, fluid shows. This resulted in two ‘live’ albums in 2023: ‘Live at Deux Ours’ (with Anders Christensen, Antoine Pierre and Dorian Dumont) followed by ‘Live in Paris’ recorded at the Studio de l’Ermitage (with Jozef Dumoulin, Matteo Mazzú and Antoine Pierre).
In March 2024, Guillaume entered the studio with Dorian, Mattéo and Teun Verbruggen. The result is twelve breathtaking tracks with an ambiguous mix of jazz improvisation and rock that has not been equalled since the 70s.
The album opens with the title track. The order of the songs is no accident, it tells a story. With “Morning Mr Protocol’, the guitarist delivers a sharp criticism of society with bitter irony.
The vibe of the album swings between dark and rebellious melancholy (“Morning Mr Protocol”) and acidic pink irony (the track “Bisou Bisou” is a nonchalant toe-tapper).
We find this bipolarity on the cover of the vinyl, black and white sliced with flashy pink – reminiscent of the punk period of the late 70s.
EDGES – as the name implies – is walking on borders, always on a tightrope. Don’t try squeezing them into a box! EDGES is not a band that can be easily filed: neither jazz, nor rock, nor punk, nor pop; it’s above all a sound, a vibe!
