More than anything else, Big Noise’s reputation is that of a live band, with their loyal and enthusiastic audience acting as the fifth musician. So a live recording was an absolute must. This is how they came to blow away the stage of Brussels Riches-Claires cultural centre over two consecutive nights (January 10 & 11, 2016) for the recording of their third album.
True to their mission of spreading the music of the bayou, the quartet continued exploring spirituals, traditionals and blues from Mississippi and New Orleans with incredible energy. The programme showcased a new repertoire but also arrangements that made the previous albums such a success (“Oh, Didn’t He Ramble”, “My Indian Red”, “Jesus on the Main Line” and “You Rascal You”). All the tracks came alive again through the spirited interpretations of the four musicians that still play with infectious joy.
What makes this music so magical – and so authentic – is above all the spirit in which it is played. More than technique or energy, it comes alive with spirit, complicity and friendship. And all this can be heard and felt throughout this third album.
