The fact that this album is called Meeting is not an accident.
If something can be felt throughout the 12 tracks it is shared joy, the pleasure of meeting up, playing together, reaching new heights, feeling free to follow one’s own path, interpretations and one’s instrument – the feeling of being several and oneself at the same time.
A combo that has been playing together as such since 2007.
This is because in addition to quality, Lamy’s keywords are loyalty, trust and complicity. Ingredients that – both in the studio and in concert – lead to an osmosis close to alchemy.
Meeting is an album made with the sounds of life.
One track leads to another like night follows day, but each are different. Aïe sounds like a cartoon soundtrack, whereas La Déferlante has melodramatic overtones worthy of Almodovar. Untitled and Room 117 both swing, but in different moods. Can’t Wait, which is much more jazzy, leans towards the experimental in its solos. Amongst the souvenirs is Eclipse, a track that Lamy particularly likes and that has been turning up regularly since 2004. Like him and the quartet, it has never stopped evolving. For Absturz and Tout simplement, known in versions for two acoustic guitars, he wanted to give them more body and complexity by playing them as a quartet. And one cover: Summertime by George Gershwin, for the pleasure of playing a standard, or playing it differently with a totally contemporary groove.
All this with the guitarist’s trademark clear sound.
