MikMâäk is not an ordinary big band: they are 16 musicians with incredible personalities united around a collectively composed repertoire where the score leaves room for free or even experimental improvisation for the benefit of unusual jazz. They present a second live album recorded at the Whall in January 2019.

Led by Laurent Blondiau (trumpeter-founder of the Mâäk collective) and Fabian Fiorini, MikMâäk is a re-formulated idea of the big band, one of the craziest projects of Mâäk, a versatile collective founded by Laurent Blondiau 21 years ago. It brings together 16 exceptional musicians who have excelled in jazz, outstanding improvisers, all very different but complementary and demonstrating remarkable musical eclecticism. In this atypical big band, everyone composes and brings their personal touch. The result is organized chaos, interspersed with intelligent interventions that blend organically into liberating compositions, all with a disarming touch of humor!

With #2, MikMâäk presents the long-awaited follow-up to their eponymous first album – released in 2015 by De Werf -: original compositions, notably by drummer Samuel Ber, clarinetist Yann Lecollaire and tuba Pascal Rousseau. The icing on the cake, unreleased titles from the two artistic directors, Laurent Blondiau and Fabian Fiorini. The album was recorded in January 2019 during a residency at W:Hall and mixed by sound engineer Vincent De Bast.
