Saxophonist, singer and composer Nicolas Kummert played and recorded with Pierre van Dormael, Yves Peeters Group, Jef Neve & GrooveTHing, Qu4tre, Alexi Tuomarila Quartet, Karl Jannuska, Matthieu Marthouret… His main project is Nicolas Kummert Voices, a quintet that recently released its second album, “liberté” on Prova Records.
Nicolas is also active on the African music scene (with singers like Patrick Ruffino, or occasionally Manu Di Bango, Keziah Jones), on the DJ scene with hip hop DJs (Grazzhoppa DJ bigband,…) and house DJs (studio recordings and shows in famous clubs like the Ministry of Sound in London, Teatro Kapital in Madrid…). Nicolas plays a lot these days with Viktor Lazlo and Eric-Emmanuel Schmidt’s project “My name is Billie Holiday”, a magnificent tribute to Lady Day that already played approximately 200 shows in France, Belgium, Holland, Martinique and Turkey.
In his young career, he recorded over 30 CDs as a leader or a sideman and played in more than 40 countries worldwide.
His versatility and openness to all styles of music is obvious in his own band, nicolas kummert voices and is definitely a good way to define this musician about whom Brad Mehldau wrote: “There is often a wonderful gentleness to Nicolas Kummert’s playing that perfectly suits the music… and he shows a great musical personality”.
