Born in Quebec in 1956, Tanguay is a percussionist, composer and inventor. Since the early 80s, he has been playing with a wide range of ensembles such as Jean Derome et les Dangereux Zhoms, Évidence, Castor et Compagnie, Trio Jean-François Groulx, L’ODD (orchestre de danse), Villemure ô Carré, Ensemble Pierre Cartier and Projet Riel. He is one of the close collaborators of Jean Derome, Normand Guilbeault, Pierre Langevin, René Lussier, Karen Young, Fred Frith, Michel Donato, Daniel Mille, André Duchesne and Antoine Berthiaume. He moves freely between the worlds of jazz, contemporary, medieval and traditional music. He co-founded the groups Strada, Midi Tapant and Derome/Tanguay. He has composed for dance (Lucie Grégoire, Andrew de L. Harwood, Irène Stamou and Francine Gagné), theatre and cinema (Allan Booth, Imago and Roberto Ariganello). He regularly tours in Canada and Europe.
