Side-woman in many projects – ranging from classical music to contemporary jazz and Brazilian, African or pop music – Anne Wolf has always managed to preserve her personal space by composing and arranging for her trio. With this new album, the pianist opens the third part of an adventure that began at the end of the nineties (with “Amazone” in 2001, released by Igloo and “Moon at Noon” released in 2010 on the Mogno label) and presents a new quartet line-up, with cellist Sigrid Vandenbogaerde and a magical rhythm section in the persons of Theo De Jong on bass (who also signs the cello arrangements) and Lionel Beuvens on drums.
“Danse avec les anges” (“Dancing with the Angels”) grew from a personal and instinctive approach. Anne Wolf’s music is the result of a whole series of influences, ranging from Bach to Pierre van Dormael through Bill Evans, Sting, Jimi Hendrix, Jobim, Michel Petrucciani or Parliament, to name but a few.
The original instrumentation of this new album gives it a more modern direction but always makes the most of the melodies, leaving in its wake a gently exotic aroma…
