Together with Félix Simlaine (drums) and Philippe Aerts (double-bass), Charles Loos made this recording in May 87. The trio play exclusveIy original compositions mainly by Charles Loos but there is also one by Diederik Wissels, and one by Pascale Chardome. It is worth noting that the piano used by Charles Loos on this CD is the wonderful «Fazioli». Loos can only be described as poetical inspiration mode sound…He acts as a painter, enamoured with tonalities, aware of their magical power. Now and then an immemorial image is made to stand out, a memory of solitude. «There will always be solitude for those who deserve it», said Barbey d’Aurevilly. The compositions may be due to Wissels, Chardome or Loos, but they have in common a certain bareness, an inexpressible purity… F. Simtaine and P. Aerts are more than accompanists, they are inspired accom· plices. A close, tacit agreement links them to the pianist. (Marc Danval)
