Two years after a first album as a trio (Sweet Tension, Igloo Records), guitarist Julien Tassin is back with Moondancer, eight new tracks inspired by Jazz, Blues and film music. The guitar – sometimes raw, sometimes airy – plunges us into an almost bipolar world of contrasts, somewhere between dream and reality.

Since the release of his first trio album in 2018, Julien Tassin has continued to play and push the limits, gradually establishing himself as the most rock guitarist on the jazz scene in Belgium. With one of the best European rhythm sections (Nicolas Thys on bass and Dré Pallemaerts on drums), the trio offers almost perfect energy and osmosis. Considered adventurous musicians, they constantly surprise audiences by playing with codes and dynamics that create an intense live experience.
Over the course of the concerts, the trio’s music opened up, became more organic and based on the interaction between the band members. The music gradually took on an airy dimension while being rooted in the ground, a contradiction that pushed the guitarist into writing this new repertoire.
With «Moondancer”, Tassin continues his exploration of lightness, lyricism and weightlessness while making music that is firmly rooted. The first five titles were written in a draft, like a long sequel where each element is inter- connected. The guitarist has a vision of global music that tells a story, a continuous sound, like an uninterrupted journey. Like the rock bands of the 60s and 70s and their concept albums, he no longer composes one song at a time but thinks of each track as part of a larger soundscape.
