Bruno VANSINA studied music as early as 1994, during his secondary school days, taking lessons with Bart DEFOORT. Between 1995 and 1997 he continues his formation at the Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium) and that the Royal Academy in The Hague (The Netherlands), with US saxophonist John RUOCCO as a teacher. There he develops an interest fro the music of John COLTRANE, Miles DAVIS, Wayne SHORTER, Sonny ROLLINS, Cannonball ADDERLEY etc…
He also attends workshops with US saxophonists Dave LIEBMAN, Vincent HERRING and Bob MALLACH.
He participated in the band put together by trombonist Phil ABRAHAM with some of the best young graduates from Belgian jazz conservatories, playing a.o. at the Django d’Or Night or some festivals.
He rapidly imposed himself on the Belgian jazz scene, playing in trio or in quartet.
His quartet was formed after a few sessions at the Antwerp club “Den Hopper”. In this context, he presents some of his own compositions, in a solid, purelly acoustic, swinging, virtuoso and straight ahead jazz idiom which occasionnaly reminds of another one of his musical mentors, US saxophonist Branford MARSALIS.
