
Saxkartel consists of tenor saxophone player Kurt Van Herck, the young and promising players Sara Meyer on the alto and Robin Verheyen at the soprano saxophone, and composer/arranger/baritone saxophonist Tom Van Dyck. They play jazz in a rather unusual setting: as a chamber music with only four horns, no drums nor bass or piano.

This group could be compared with a string quartet; it is only that when taking a look at their repertoire, you’ll see they make a clear choice: jazz is their starting point, en besides larger completely composed passages, the elements “groove”, “swing” and improvisation are important ingredients. Moreover, after listening carefully you will realize that the intimacy and the fragility of this ensemble in fact disguise its force.
