Fred Wilbaux was born in 1961 and attended the Conservatoire de Tournai where he studied piano and solfeggio; the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, learning the jazz piano and finally the Seminaire de Jazz in Liege. His early work was dedicated to songwriting, rock and Brasilian music but in 1986 he started playing jazz, forming a trio with Daniel Zanello and Jan de Haas.
For his first recording, in 1992, he decided to play solo piano. A wide range of tracks combined improvisation with classicism, instilling a poetic feeling similar to that left by the music of Charles Loos, whose class Fred had attended at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles. In 1995 Fred formed a purely acoustic trio together with Manuel Hermia, the multi-talented saxophonist who had just released his first CD entitled “Acid Colours” (4AM) and Nicholas Thys.
